Gov. Jerry Brown has signed Assemblyman Richard Pan’s, D-Sacramento, AB 369, which will allow patients who are forced to change health insurance plans in the middle of serious treatments to maintain their health care provider, even if that provider is not participating in the new health plan.

The bill’s passage comes at a time when a number of individual health policies were canceled during a four-month period due to higher standards created by the Affordable Care Act.

“People who are injured or sick should not be denied their current treatment,” Pan said. “This bill is needed for many who must have their care completed without disruption. During these critical times of need, we must ensure that patients can keep their care and their doctor.”
